Best of Budapest, Restaurant Recommendations

What to do, see and eat in Downtown

In this Budapest Travel guide, we explore the Downtown area which hosts some of the most famous buildings of the city: The Parliament and the St Stephens Basilica! Let’s also look at some Restaurant Recommendations from our favorite ones!

In this video you’ll see many important sights of Budapest: The Parliament is one of the largests of it’s kind in the world! A must visit place for anyone coming to the capital city of Hungary! It is one of the most recognizable building in the whole country one that is gorgeous both during the day and the night so if you want to take some nice photos it’s an ideal destination! It’s area has many interesting buildings since a lot of governmental functions are located here.

***Seperate Video about the Parliament tour can also be found on our Channel***

But there are some excellent coffee places nearby too like Cafe Madal, but for this time we chose Six Letter that is also a pretty good brunch place! It may be a bit expensive, but the service is nice and the food was just amazing.

Nearby is the Szabadság tér, a park that is usually hosting some nice festivals primarily focusing on food and beverages, like the Belvárosi Sörfesztivál. Below an example how a fesitval usually looks like. This one was a wine Festival.

The St Stephen’s Basilica is one of my favorite buildings in Budapest, it is a crown jewel of the city landscape. And you can also visit it’s top to get an excellent view of the city! Plus you get to find out the secret of the Dome Structure!

**UPDATE: Since publishing the video, the Basilica has introduced an entry fee, hence it’s no longer free to visit: https://www.bazilika.biz/en Ticket prices are around 1200 HUF

There are many bars, restaurants and pastry shops in the area, and that is a good thing as you’ll need some energy after a long walk, so let’s look at some of the recommendations we had in the video:

Six Letter – Coffee and Brunch: https://g.page/sixletter?share

Espresso Embassy – Specialty Coffee: https://g.page/EspressoEmbassy?share

Qui – Thai Food: https://g.page/quibudapest?share If you are looking for some Thai cuisine, than Qui is an excellent chose (It’s related to another very good restaurant in Budapest known as Khan).

Trattoria Pomo D’Oro – Italian Restaurant: https://goo.gl/maps/N6T5QqXf1od1S6pK8 Trattoria Pomo D’Oro is one of the finest Italian restaurants in the city, and if you want to visit I would recommend booking a table in advance which you can do via phone or email.

Tapassio – Hungarian and Mediterranean Fusion Tapas: https://g.page/tapassio?share Tapassio is for the Tapas lovers who would like to try out something just a bit different. They are a fusion tapas place taking the Mediterranean base and twisting it with some Hungarian elements.

Iguana – Mexican Cuisine: https://goo.gl/maps/ypxn4VdyqAaMuLPg7 Iguana has some excellent Mexican dishes. We have Arriba Taquiera if you want some fast food Burrito but if you are looking for the better experience, then I would suggest visiting this establishment!

I55 – American Bar and Restaurant with Deep Dish Pizza: https://g.page/i55americanrestaurant?share I55 is an American Bar and Restauran mostly famous for their Deep Dish Pizza. None of these Pizza’s are meant for 1 person believe me even a team of 4 may struggle with one as it is so filling! Bur it’s worth the experience. However if you are not in the mood for Deep Dish Pizza, then try out their Brisket and Pulled pork which are our favorite items from the Menu.

Hot Stone Steakhouse – Grill your own meat: https://g.page/hotstonesteakhouse?share The restaurant offers a unique experience with their lava stones, basicly you are cooking you own Steak. Which some might find strange and why to pay for something that in the end i have to cook myself, but if you want to have fun with some excellent meat give this place a try!

Chez Dodo – Artisan Macaron: https://goo.gl/maps/u7HwxaAxgz6qDPmw9 In my opnion the best Macaron place in Budapest.

Kató Néni Finomságai: Local specialty: Chimney Cake: https://goo.gl/maps/wXt3t1yQ8BGbgfvA9
