Where Cavemen lived | Hiking in Szalajka Valley

The Szalajka Valley is one of the most popular hiking spots in Hungary, and it’s not a surprise: Many natural wonders and amazing sights await you!

As you walk along the Szalajka stream in the valley, visit Lakes that are the homes of the special local trout, plus there is a unique Cave where once Cavemen lived. In this video we’ll show you guys the Valley so you can get inspired for a visit! It is a true Natural Treasure of Hungary! The Szalajka Völgy (Valley) is right next to the town of Szilvásvárad and it is part of the larger Bükki National Park (Bükki Nemzeti Park) that hosts many amazing natural treasures.

It can be reached from Budapest by public Transport in 3 hours, or about 2 hours by car. But visiting from nearby Town of Eger may also be a good approach since its less than an hour from there with public transport, or under 30 mins by car.

A local variety of trout (Pisztráng in Hungarian) is the best food choice of the area. Locals have created lakes along the Szalajka stream to breed this unique species of fish and they have been doing so for the past 100 years! For those of you who enjoy hiking, this is an excellent area that offers so much more, and we plan to visit other places here that show what a great are the Bükk is for nature lovers!
