The Unique PINBALL MUSEUM of Budapest | Hungary Travels

The Pinball Museum is a hidden gem of Budapest. A place close to the city center hosting more than 100 different Pinball and Arcade cabinets from several decades of the past.
In this video we’ll show you why its such a great destination if you look for some off the beaten path experiences in Hungary. Balázs Pálfi fell in love with the pinball machines in the 70s and wanted to establish a place where these cabinets can keep on entertaining people even if the Arcades became less relevant over time. Thanks to him and the staff, many unique machines are now safely displayed here, and the best part is that you can play with almost all of them! If you purchase a ticket, you’ll have access to the Pinball Museum for the entire day, and there is no need for coins to use the devices. You just walk up to one and start playing, having fun as the steel balls race across the table! You get a wristband at the entrance and can leave in case you wish to check out other things in the area. Like the Pozsonyi út which is filled with some eateries. Then come back and have some more fun!

Is the New York Cafe Overrated? | Budapest Travel Guide | Hungary Travels

The New York Cafe in Budapest comes up very frequently in tourist guides as a must visit place when traveling to the Hungarian capitol.
In this video we try to figure out if it lives up to the hype and if it indeed deserves the title: “The Most Beautiful Cafe in the World”? The New York Cafe is part of the Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel, but even if you are not a guest at the hotel, you can still experience this unique oldschool Cafe. And for sure a lot of people do so because most of the time there is a queue of those who wish to visit it. Coffee house culture is big in Hungary and there are some really cool old traditional Cafés to visit. One of the most prominent one is the New York Cafe. But It’s not just about the coffee, if you wish to eat something nice, there are full meals to choose from. Just take a look at their menu here: https://newyorkcafe.hu/en/cafe-menu/ As a Budapest local I’ve never been to the cafe myself, but was always curious what it is like thanks to the queue I often see in front of it. So we took some time to visit the New York Cafe to give an honest opinion about the place. Stick around till the end of the video to get the full breakdown of our thoughts on this unique experience in Budapest!

Traveling Back in Time at the Budapest Retro Interactive Museum

In this video we show you the Budapest Retro Interactive Museum, also known as Budapest Retro Élményközpont.
It is a place where you can experience the everyday life in Hungary from the 1960s to the 1990s. Until 1989 Hungary was under communist role, and this museum tries to evoke the nostalgia of these socialist times, focusing on the more fond memories and having fun.
If you wish to know more about the Budapest Retro Interactive Museum, like ticket prices and opening hours, check out their official website: https://bpretro.com/en
The Socialist times were difficult for Hungary and other countries of the Eastern Block. This Museum does not wish to show these times under a positive light, but it wants to focus on the nice memories people may have from this era of our History.
If you wish to learn more about the darker side of the communist rule in Hungary, then I highly recommend the House of Terror / Terror Háza, which is not too far from here: https://www.terrorhaza.hu/en
In the Budapest Retro Interactive Museum you’ll find many items that will spark nostalgia for many Hungarians but also people who lived under socialist rule in the eastern block. You can interact with many of the items, get a real hands-on feel and experience what it was like sitting in those ugly sofas while watching the big television. You can also sit in as a newscaster and read the news from these times. Don’t forget to check yourself on the big screens because the large cameras from these times are rolling! You can also drive an old police car around the virtual block! There are just so many unique and fun ways to experience the Retro Budapest feeling!
At the end you can have a few drinks and snacks at the Retro Bistro. You can even drop by here without paying for entry tickets so if you are just hungry for some oldschool snacks, sweets and drinks you can do that as well. There are things like hot sandwiches we usually at at parties as kids, or fried debrecener sausage! There are many chocolates, candies and desserts like oldschool mignon or ischler (Isler). You can also get some shots in jelly form! One of them can also be combined with a Beer. This is called Búvár or Diver. Normally it’s a shot of Unicum liqour, but still fun to drink a beer and chew a shot of spirit in the end! The museum can be ideal for a visit during rainy days, you can spend around 1-3 hours on the exhibition floors, and also spend some more time at the bistro while having some chat about the time you spent at the establishment and discuss some of the nostalgic memories you had.

A Taste of Budapest After Dark | Exploring and Eating Out | Hungary

Here’s a taste of Budapest After Dark, when most of the famous sites such as the Parliament, the Basilica and the Buda Castle are lit up.
In this video we’ll take you for a relaxing Walk in the Budapest night. After Dark the city gets illuminated by lights which results in a unique atmosphere. As we explore the evening in Budapest, we also stop by to have some snacks on our way, like eating Lángos, grabbing a nice Bagel, grab some sweets and have a few drinks in the Ruin Bar Area.
Walking in Budapest is easy, distance between historic sites is short and you get to enjoy beautiful scenery along the danube river as the sites are lit up.
Hopefully with this video you’ll be inspired to take a stroll in the evening of Budapest.
DISCLAIMER: The Audio had some issues during filming. I did my best to make the video as best as possible, however still sorry for some quality drops here and there. As this was the first time my producer went on camera, and she did a great job and had a lot of fun, I still wanted the video to be made! Hopefully you’ll still enjoy it! Thanks
Here’s a quick Rundown of our Adventure in the night: We start at the lit up Budapest Parliament, one of the most beautiful Buildings in the Hungarian capitol. If you wish to visit it, we made a video about the experience and what you need to know: https://youtu.be/rrmOBgA7CEU
We stop by Retro Lángos Budapest, one of the best places to try the unique hungarian deep fried dough: Lángos. https://goo.gl/maps/eHwzzS9KQ79TjUyw7
Then we visit the area around the St Stephens Basilica. Many restaurants and snack places operate here, and on this journey we tried the Bagels of The Box Donut: https://goo.gl/maps/VQ2EMsLSkyJ2Ms1K7
We also stoped by Chez Dodo, one of our favorite Macaron places where we tried Madeleine. A sweet I never had before. https://goo.gl/maps/xopzBxWLbppNGPV36
We then continued to explore the Deák Ferenc tér area where the Budapest Eye is located: http://oriaskerek.com/en/ After this we have arrived to the Király utca area where many eateries and Pubs are located, especially in the arcade called Gozsdu Udvar.
Some of the Famous Bars the area are the so called Ruin Bars. For this video we visited one of the lesser known bars, which is one of my favorite ones in the area: HOPS BEER BAR BUDAPEST: https://goo.gl/maps/JE1B45ymFB8kU11o7

How to make Stuffed Cabbage

In this video we show you how to make Stuffed Cabbage rolls, a traditional Hungarian food!
It was the first time ever that I made this dish. It is one of my favorites , which maybe you can tell from the name of this channel. Making Stuffed Cabbage was a super fun experience especially as I could also dive deep into the history of the dish and share some insights about the unique Hungarian ingredients.
Did you know we make this mostly during Winter season? Do you have an idea why that’s the case? Have you heard about the great war of Hungarian sausages like Csabai and Gyulai? In this video you’ll not only learn with me how to cook this dish, but also learn about Hungarian food and culture!
Below are the ingredients for this recipe:
1 kg pickled cabbage leaf
1 kg shredded pickled cabbage
1 kg ground pork
1 big onion (or 2 smaller ones)
200 g uncooked rice (well washed)
4 cloves of garlic
4 tsp red pepper
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp black pepper
2.5 tsp salt
6 pieces of bay leaf
apr 2 liters of water (or until you almost cover the cabbage)
For thickening:
2 tbsp flour
3 tbsp oil
2 tsp redpepperHow to make pickled cabbage:
1kg cabbage
30g salt
3 tsp of whole blackpepper
1 whole cumin
6 bay leaf
1 appleCut the cabbage as thinly as possible (in case you bought a whole cabbage). Start layering in a larger jar (a jar which will be full with the filling): put some cabbage at the bottom, which we break very thoroughly (try to use an item with which you can push and squeeze the cabbage to the bottom). Squeeze it well to the bottom. Season with part of the salt, sprinkle with some of the spices, then add another layer of cabbage, and salt and spices again. This is repeated until the cabbage runs out. Place the peeled apple on top, weigh it down and let it stand at room temperature for at least a week. It is best if we can choose a glass just big enough to reach the top, and the apple itself will be the weight, which we press down well with the lid.

Tihany | The Charming Town of Lake Balaton

In this Video we visit one of the most Charming little Towns at Lake Balaton in Hungary, full of rich history and culture!
The Hungarian Countryside offers some cute villages and towns to visit and one of the highlights of those has to be Tihany. A place that is part of Hungary’s history for almost a 1000 years, it can be seen from miles away as the famous Tihanyi Bencés Apátság (Benedictine Tihany Abbey) towers over the Peninsula of Lake Balaton. But besides the Abbey, the small town has some charming little streets with cute houses and many artisan shops. Lake Balaton offers many interesting places to visit.
The most common product of Tihany is Levander, the place is famous for it. There is an insane amount of stuff that have Levandar in them. From Beer to Pálinka, from Cosmetic Goods to Decorative items. You’ll definately find something you can take as a souvenir. You can even visit a Levander Center where you can learn more about this plant and how it is used in everyday products! (I would not recommend the Levander Pálinka for it’s flavour though…. it’s an experience)
The town of Tihany has many traditional Hungarian Restaurants (called Csárda, or Fogadó) so if you wish try out some local dishes, you can easily find a place as the town isn’t huge it’s easy to get around and visit any of the eateries when you are hungry. We eat at Pál Csárda. The Tihany Peninsula has many hills and forests, you can easily spend a day here hiking around, or when it’s the hot summer you can rest on the beaches. We grabbed a coffe before heading back home at Kotyogós Kávéterasz.

We visited Tihany from the City of Siófok using the Boat services. Similar services run from Balatonfüred and Szántód as well. But you can visit the town also from Budapest by using Public transport. It will be around 2,5 hours to reach Tihany. With car it should be under 2 hours to get to this town from the capitol.

Mysterious Art, Dead Volcanoes and Sea of Stones in Káli Medence | Day 3

In this video we show you the Káli Medence area in Badacsony, a wonderful region to visit if you like hiking, nature and cute villages!
On our last day of our 3 day long trip we’ll be exploring the Káli Medence, to which I refer to as Káli Valley, but the correct term is the less exciting sounding Káli Basin. It’s a region on the northern side of Lake Balaton in close proximity to Badacsony. It’s full of interesting geography like the Hegyestű which is the remnant of a dead volcano, or the Sea of Stones which is an area that would work very well as a distant planet in sci-fi movies.
This video chronicles our 3rd day in the region. The plan is to visit the Hegyestű first, we can translate the name as Sharp Needle and you can kinda understand where the name comes from once you see it. It’s a unique and interesting object that also gives some nice and scenic views of the lake and the Káli medence as well. https://goo.gl/maps/E1eowDHSfcydh9KR8
Then we visit a mysterious Art installation in the middle of the valley called Emberi Komédia (Human Comedy). It is also known as the Hungarian Stone Henge. https://goo.gl/maps/2MGehpyEA6kNYuG59. After that we explore one of the most hip towns in the area: Köveskál. Although it has a relatively small population, it is very popular with tourists as it has a ton of culinary options to choose from and is ideal to start your hikes from here then return to rest in one of its many inns. https://goo.gl/maps/PbPatec87XV5qNacA

We then explore the Kőtenger (Sea of Stones or Sea of Rocks). A place that shows that this area used to be Under water millions of years ago. Its like walking on a different Planet! The rockformations act like a Playground for both adults and children. https://goo.gl/maps/bw7YjJcoHCe7ZpMm8. Finally, we refresh with some free mineral water straight from the spring at the Theodora spring where you can get the taste of fresh mineral water from the ground. https://goo.gl/maps/58g2T4Wf8gah2jov9
At the end of the Day we close with some nice food at Tilia Restaurant in Badacsonytomaj: https://goo.gl/maps/z5mn2yHjC3hWQNi28

And have a few drinks at Pláne Badacsony: https://goo.gl/maps/697CqynMj8yoTMU26

Exploring Castle Ruins and Hiking at Lake Balaton | Day 2

In this video we show you areas near Badacsony to visit: the Szigliget Castle ruins, Hiking to some natural wonders, eat delicious food and do some wine tasting!
The Szigliget Castle ruins are near Badacsony, a unique area at Lake Balaton which is one of the most popular destination for travelers. Those who want to chill, enjoy the water or even take some culinary Adventures all come here. The region was shaped by geological activities millions of years ago and has many mountains for people to hike up to. One of them is located in Szigliget where once a great castle stood. In this video we explore the Castle Ruins of Szigliget, then go and explore another mountain nearby to find the geological objects called Basalt Organs.
This videos chronicles our adventures during our 2nd day in the Badacsony area. Szigliget is a small town close to Badacsonytomaj. The Szigliget Castle ruins lie on top of the hill which is overseeing the small little town. Although its only the ruins of a once thriving castle, they were recently renovated, showcasing what life once was among the walls of the castle that are standing there for 800 years. But the real reason to visit this place is for the amazing views and scenes you get from looking over the walls.

As many people are visiting the castle ruins, an IceCream shop and Cafe operates at the bottom of the hill, and they serve Amazing IceCream! Plus some nice local handcraft items can be bought here as well.
Next we went to nearby mountain of Szentgyörgy. The region is famous for it’s wine, and this mountain also hosts many vineyards. We went to Szászi Estate Viridarium Restaurant where we recharged with some excellent lunch, and then we checked out a nearby little chapel called Lengyel Kápolna. After this we moved over to the other side of the mountain to try and hike up to some unique geological formations also known as Basalt Organs. It was a tough trip, but definately worth the experience.

Finally after returning to our place of stay in Badacsonytomaj, we went for a wine tasting at the FATA Cellar, then ending the day with some dinner.
