The Ultimate Buda Castle Guide

Visiting the Buda Castle is a must if you come to Budapest and in this video we show you our top favorite things to do so you can have a lovely time here!
The Buda Castle district – also known as the Castle Quarter – is one of the most visited places the city of Budapest, and there is a good reason for that. The district itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site hosting many amazing buildings to visit and see, such as the Matthias Church, the Fishermans Bastion and the Buda Castle iself! But there is also a creepy labyrinth and the Hospital in the Rock with it’s unique history! And besides the gorgeous architecture to see and take pictures of, there is also the amazing view of the Pest side and the Danube riverside, you can view the Parliament, the St Stephens Basilica and many other sites from here! But there are also some nice foods to try, and some interesting experiences to check out, so in this video we’ll show you how you can spend a day in the Buda Castle District.
We took the Funicular to reach the top, you can check how much the latest prices are and what the opening hours are here: https://www.bkv.hu/en/buda_castle_funicular. We first went to the Buda Castle, you can wander around and enjoy it’s outside or visit the Castle Museum: https://www.varmuzeum.hu/jegyek.html (unfortunately there is no English page, try using a page translator like the one in chrome). Then we visited the Hospital in the Rock, which was also used as a bunker, it has an interesting history and a nice guided tour that takes an hour: https://www.sziklakorhaz.eu/en/informacio/ CREDIT: Photos downloaded from wikipedia page: https://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sziklak%C3%B3rh%C3%A1z_Atombunker_M%C3%BAzeum
We then went to grab some amazing Strudels at Rétesvár: https://goo.gl/maps/ADfMiCgZSXvhHdUY8. After that, we got ourselves some nice coffee at PABooks (Trinity Cafe), its a bookstore and a cafe in one place! https://g.page/trinity-cafe-budapest?share
We also visited the Labyrinth, it was a very cool experience because the place got really dark and very mystical! Make sure to have some cash with you as the place does not accept cards: http://labirintus.eu/en/informacio/ CREDIT: Photos downloaded from http://labirintus.eu/en/. We had to make a stop at Ruszwurm and try their famous creamy cake! And it delivered indeed! https://goo.gl/maps/kZAomjsQUPjxc4x28
We visited the Matthias Church from the inside, and it is totally worth it! I even like it maybe better than St Stephens Basilica’s inside. We couldnt go up to the tower, but the view must be amazing up there too! https://matyas-templom.hu/prices. The next must see was Fishermans Bastion, you need to pay to go up but the view of Budapest can also be enjoyed through the many columns behind the Church! https://goo.gl/maps/MXahgrji9rYjtGXs5

We were then just wondering around, went to Tóth Árpád promenade where the Cherry blossom was visible (at the time we recorded the video in late April). And then was time for another coffee at 4minutes: https://goo.gl/maps/mcgrkNkgttvwXZan6
We finally went for a dinner and grabbed a Chicken Paprikás, which is a local dish and it was very nice and tasty! There are many tourist trap restaurants in the area, but this one was certainly very nice: 21 Hungarian Bistro: https://g.page/21MagyarVendeglo?share

House of Music in Budapest | Museum for your eyes AND ears!

What is the House of Music like? We show you the unique and interactive experience this new attraction in Budapest has for you.
The House of Music in Budapest (also known as Magyar Zene Háza) is one of the latest attractions in the city for visitors to enjoy. But can you really make a museum of sorts for something that you cannot see, but only hear? We went to check it out to see if it’s worth to visit if you are in the city and if it fits on a list of “Best things to do in Budapest, Hungary” 🙂 When you visit Budapest, you may want to spend some time in one of the many Museums the city has to offer. The Museum of Fine Arts or the House of Terror are all places that can be easily recommended, but can another Museum or Exhibition rise up next to them? The House of Music /Magyar Zene Háza certainly wants to be like that with it’s interactive setup, something that can also appeal to the younger audiance. Music is awesome and throughout the history of humanity it played a crucial role!

This permament exhibition takes you on a Journey from the very first instances when sounds produced by humans started to take shape and form music, it shows you how instruments and the role of music has developed throughout the ages, all the way to how we consume and produce music today! This is an interactive exhbition, you get a headset that helps you on your path to experience the wonders of music. This is why it was a challenge for us to film and edit this video for you guys, but we tried our best to somehow represent the experience. I believe we managed to capture some of the essence, but in the meantime still have a ton of things we didnt show to have suprises in there in case you visit.

Ticket prices to the House of Music / Magyar Zene Háza are around 2800 HUF (around 6-8 euros), and you should book online as tickets are limited and there are set time periods when your tickets are valid (since they dont want to overcrowd the exhibition)
You can find tickets to the Hangdimenziok exhibition here: https://ligetplusz.hu/jegyek/hangdimenziok There are other venues and functions of the place as well, it can also host concerts, there is a cafe, restaurant, also the SoundDome and a sound heavy playground outside. Szechenyi Thermal Bath | Is this the best bath experience?

What is the Szechenyi Thermal bath like and is it a good experience? Let us show you this must visit place in Budapest!
We visited the Szechenyi Thermal Bath in Budapest. The city and the country has many famous thermal baths, but this one is definately the most famous of all of them. When I was young my grandmother used to bring me here as she was a big fan of the Thermal Bath experience. But that was a long time ago and I really dont remember much, even though I live in Budapest and technically can come anytime.
Today you see a lot of posts on instagram and facebook of people visiting the Szechenyi Thermal Bath, but is it really worth it coming here? From the pictures it certainly is a gorgeous complex, but does the experience live up to the hype? Let’s find out!
As per Wikipedia, The Széchenyi Medicinal Bath in Budapest is the largest medicinal bath in Europe. The water is supplied by two thermal springs, and their temperature is 74 °C (165 °F) and 77 °C (171 °F). Of course in the pools these waters are cooled down so us humans can also enjoy them 🙂 Components of the thermal water include sulfate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and a significant amount of metaboric acid and fluoride. These are apparently healthy, not just pleasent for your body 🙂

What to do, see and eat in Downtown

In this Budapest Travel guide, we explore the Downtown area which hosts some of the most famous buildings of the city: The Parliament and the St Stephens Basilica! Let’s also look at some Restaurant Recommendations from our favorite ones!
In this video you’ll see many important sights of Budapest: The Parliament is one of the largests of it’s kind in the world! A must visit place for anyone coming to the capital city of Hungary! It is one of the most recognizable building in the whole country one that is gorgeous both during the day and the night so if you want to take some nice photos it’s an ideal destination! It’s area has many interesting buildings since a lot of governmental functions are located here.
***Seperate Video about the Parliament tour can also be found on our Channel***
But there are some excellent coffee places nearby too like Cafe Madal, but for this time we chose Six Letter that is also a pretty good brunch place! It may be a bit expensive, but the service is nice and the food was just amazing.

Nearby is the Szabadság tér, a park that is usually hosting some nice festivals primarily focusing on food and beverages, like the Belvárosi Sörfesztivál. Below an example how a fesitval usually looks like. This one was a wine Festival.
The St Stephen’s Basilica is one of my favorite buildings in Budapest, it is a crown jewel of the city landscape. And you can also visit it’s top to get an excellent view of the city! Plus you get to find out the secret of the Dome Structure!
**UPDATE: Since publishing the video, the Basilica has introduced an entry fee, hence it’s no longer free to visit: https://www.bazilika.biz/en Ticket prices are around 1200 HUF
There are many bars, restaurants and pastry shops in the area, and that is a good thing as you’ll need some energy after a long walk, so let’s look at some of the recommendations we had in the video:
Six Letter – Coffee and Brunch: https://g.page/sixletter?share
Espresso Embassy – Specialty Coffee: https://g.page/EspressoEmbassy?share
Qui – Thai Food: https://g.page/quibudapest?share If you are looking for some Thai cuisine, than Qui is an excellent chose (It’s related to another very good restaurant in Budapest known as Khan).

Trattoria Pomo D’Oro – Italian Restaurant: https://goo.gl/maps/N6T5QqXf1od1S6pK8 Trattoria Pomo D’Oro is one of the finest Italian restaurants in the city, and if you want to visit I would recommend booking a table in advance which you can do via phone or email.

Tapassio – Hungarian and Mediterranean Fusion Tapas: https://g.page/tapassio?share Tapassio is for the Tapas lovers who would like to try out something just a bit different. They are a fusion tapas place taking the Mediterranean base and twisting it with some Hungarian elements.

Iguana – Mexican Cuisine: https://goo.gl/maps/ypxn4VdyqAaMuLPg7 Iguana has some excellent Mexican dishes. We have Arriba Taquiera if you want some fast food Burrito but if you are looking for the better experience, then I would suggest visiting this establishment!

I55 – American Bar and Restaurant with Deep Dish Pizza: https://g.page/i55americanrestaurant?share I55 is an American Bar and Restauran mostly famous for their Deep Dish Pizza. None of these Pizza’s are meant for 1 person believe me even a team of 4 may struggle with one as it is so filling! Bur it’s worth the experience. However if you are not in the mood for Deep Dish Pizza, then try out their Brisket and Pulled pork which are our favorite items from the Menu.

Hot Stone Steakhouse – Grill your own meat: https://g.page/hotstonesteakhouse?share The restaurant offers a unique experience with their lava stones, basicly you are cooking you own Steak. Which some might find strange and why to pay for something that in the end i have to cook myself, but if you want to have fun with some excellent meat give this place a try!

Chez Dodo – Artisan Macaron: https://goo.gl/maps/u7HwxaAxgz6qDPmw9 In my opnion the best Macaron place in Budapest.

Kató Néni Finomságai: Local specialty: Chimney Cake: https://goo.gl/maps/wXt3t1yQ8BGbgfvA9

Marketplace experience and Good Food around Kálvin tér

In this Budapest Travel guide, we check what a Marketplace Experience is like, and what Good food we can get around Kálvin tér.
Let’s look at the Best of Budapest! Kálvin tér may be just an ordinary Subway station, but there are so many nice shops and restaurants around it! The prime site to visit is obviously the Grand Marketplace. It gives off a nice vibe, and it’s an excellent place to experience a bit of the Hungarian culture and flavors. There’s also a basement part where you can get some ideas for souvenirs, as this is the place that showcases Hungaricum’s, things that are typically Hungarian.

But the area has been siginificantly renovated over the past few years and a ton of new shops and eateries have popped up: In this video we are also showing you a pretty good brunch place called Cafe Brunch Budapest. If you are hungry for an Avocado Salmon sandwich or some bacon and eggs, then it’s a worthy place to check out.

We also visited one of the Frei Cafe’s, a Hungarian Coffee franchise that it all over the country. They have an interesting selection of coffee and tee plus their interiors look very colorful and fun.
We call out one of our favorite Italian restaurants nearby: Trattoria Toscana. It has a very good and tasty selection of seafood and pasta, so don’t miss it if you are a fan of the italian cuisine. During summer you can also sit outside and have a beatiful view at the Gellért hill.
We also pass by Belvárosi Disznótoros, it’s an eatery that also functions as a butcher shop. They offer a wide variaty of local Hungarian dishes, so if you would like to try out some of those, it’s a very good option.
One of our favorite specialty coffee shops is also in the neighbourhood: Budapest Baristas. If you enjoy specialty coffee then I would gladly recommend them as they have a nice selection of beans and different types of coffee (my favorite is their V60 if I have time or their batchbrew). Here you can also enjoy very good brunch.

There is also a shop that’s called Best Stuff. It is a very cool place if you want to buy some merch related to Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars or Kawaii stuff, but they also have a wide selection of sweets and unique beverages.
At lunch time we went to Al Dente, an authentic Italian bistro that serves excellent Pasta dishes. The owner is a fun guy from Italy who actively works between the tables, so you can be assured that the flavors you get won’t dissapoint.

Nearby there is also another great bar that serves Mediterranean food: Tapas! The place called Padron is also a family owned business similarly like Al Dente.

And of course we had room for sweets, so we collected some excellent Cheesecake inspired desserts at Say Cheese. If you have lactose intolerance or gluten allergies, you can still find some delicious items here as they have lactose free and gluten free products!
Last but not least we picked up some Artisan chocolate at Rózsavölgyi Csokoládé. The chocolates not only taste delicious, but they also have very cool packaging and awesome looking chocolates!

Palace of Wonders | Csodák Palotája

The place that awakes your inner child 🙂
The appropriately named “Palace of Wonders” (Or Csodák Palotája, CSOPA in Hungarian) is a place in Budapest that wakes up the inner child for almost any adult. It actually holds no magic or otherworldly phenomena, but many awe inspiring attractions which all show how crazy our world can get even within the boundaries of science. If you are interested in how our world works and aren’t shying away from having a ton of laugh and fun like a little child, then this place is an ideal visit especially on a rainy day because you can spend several hours here.
Do you want to keep your children entertained while also having some fun? Great, this place is made for you! Do you have some friends who want to do something different and have a joyful time? Excellent, then the Palace of Wonders is an ideal destination for your plans! Or do you just want to take someone for a date, but not just to a restaurant talking about how your days went and what your hobbies are? The Palace of Wonders actually have a special ticket for people on Dates! Check out the official website for more information: https://www.csopa.hu/en/ Disclaimer: I did not get payed to say good things about the Palace of Wonders, I bought my own ticket and seriously had a good time otherwise I would not recommend the place this much!
I have also just realised that officially in English they call themselves the Center of Scientific Wonders, but in reality, the name in Hungarian is Csodák (Wonders) Palotája (Palace of), so I used that expression instead. It also has a cute shorter version: Csopa (Chohpah)
And of course you can take great photos for your social media accounts as well 🙂

Peak behind the scenes and understand how chocolate is made!
Chocolate is great and if you want to experience the wonderful variety that this deliciousness can be, then I believe the Zotter Factory in Austria wins bigtime! Close to the border between Hungary and Austria lies the town of Riegersburg, which is not only the home of a picturesque Castle, but the Zotter Chocolate Factory as well! You have access to more than 500 different products for you to try. Learning about chocolate was never so tasty! Oh, and there is also an animal park next to the factory! The Őrség | Land of the Watchmen

Join us for this adventure in the beautiful countryside of Hungary, the Őrség.
There’s a region of the Hungary countryside called the Őrség, which has a very unique feeling to it, very different from the usual countryside someone imagines here. This is the land of the Watchmen, which is the literal translation of the word: Őrség. It is a region full of hills and deep forests, home to artisans and an ideal destination for hikers. There is also something very unique to this region: The bell towers that have a distinct look and can be found everywhere here. However, these towers officially cannot be called as such as they occupy their very own page in the book of bell towers. For some region, they are referred to as “Harangláb”, which translates strangely into “Bells Feet”. That I find to be an incorrect name, as after careful observation you’ll realise the trait that connects them all is something that looks like a skirt. Hence I believe Bells with a skirt fit better for these objects. We took a day to explore the area and hunt down some of these Bell towers while also learning about the history and culture of the area.
Below a few of the Harangláb – Bells with skirt we found during our journey.

In this area you find many hidden spots which are part of the heritage with lakes, farms and protected areas.

Kőszeg | Town from Fairy Tales

We visited Kőszeg which is right next to the border between Hungary and Austria.
Kőszeg in Hungary is a cute little town that jumps right off the pages of fairy tales and where its folk still have faith in humanity! Kőszeg is a charming little town that reminded me of the Grimm brothers. Besides the wonderful center with narrow little streets it offers plenty of interesting historical stories, unique customs and many opportunities to go on hiking journeys. There are several hiking trails to explore with amazing view also to the town it self.

The town is famous for the so called Becsület Kassza, in English Honaray system, which is basicly a tradition the locals started. Locals place handmade or selfgrown items in the morning infront of their doors/homes, mark the items how much they cost and you just place the money in a box. With this basicly the people trust anyone who wants to buy something that they leave the rightfull amount. I found this very interseting so ofcourse we had to buy something aswell 🙂 You dont see this too often anywhere else that people have faiht in humanity.
